Book Review - The Muse by Jessie Burton.

                              The Muse Book Review.

Jessie Burton.

It still amazes me how this is only her second novel, I fell in love with her writing from The Miniaturist, which outsold J K Rowling's first book, I even choose to compare that novel to Jane Eyre for my coursework.

The thing I loved the most about this book was her writing style, her writing is fluent and feels very professional in a way, almost typically British if that makes sense?
I also loved the two stories that as the novel progressed they merged swiftly into one. The last few chapter, for me personally were a complete plot twist as right at the last minute Jessie completely shifted the plot to what she led me to believe. I thought half way through the only downside was that it was a predictable ending but then within a sentence my whole thesis was destroyed ! Amazing .

Even though I have not idea or real passion for art, this book made me appreciate other peoples appreciation, you don't have to be an art fan to appreciate the skill it takes to create art. This book also made me realize how every piece of art has a story behind it, Jessie has an extensive imagination to give art such a beautiful yet tragic story.

This book has strong themes of identity, race, youth and defiantly self growth. The characters grow as they along with you uncover more of the mystery and as one story in the book is set in 1960s London there's a real sense of social boundaries being pushed.

This read is gripping but I have to say it is a book that needs concentration and memory. Its not a light read as it deals with some sensitive topics that Jessie incorporates with the empathy they deserve.

I would give this book 4.4/5

The Best Banana Bread Recipe!

                     The Best Banana Bread Recipe!

Hello my lovelies i have tried a a number of banana bread recipes and this one is the absolute best !
Its so super simple yet so so delicious!! Seriously it is like the most moist ( sorry I hate that word too)  sweet  and dense little slices of heaven. You are going to LOVE it !!

Ingredients:

270 g soft light brown sugar
2 eggs
200 g peeled bananas, mashed ( very ripe )
280 g plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
140 g unsalted butter, melted

Lets get started !

Preheat the oven to 170 degrees c . ( 325 degrees Fahrenheit).  Gas 3

1)  Put the sugar and eggs in a freestanding electric mixer with a paddle attachment ( or use a handheld electric whisk ) and beat until well incorporated.

2)  Beat in the mashed bananas.

3)  Add the flour, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda, cinnamon and ginger to the sugar mixture.

Mix it thoroughly intil all the dry ingredients have been incorporated into the egg mixture.

4)  Pour in the melted butter and beat until the ingredients are well mixed.

5) Pour the mixture into the prepared loaf tin and smooth over with a pallet knife.

6) Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until firm to touch and a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

7) Leave the cake to cool slightly in the tin before turning out onto a wire cooling rack. .

.

And there we go, technically you should leave the banana bread to cool completely but I can never resist taking a warm slice whilst its still hot because it smells soooo good.

This recipe is firm on the outside but moist on the inside, and when its still hot it is pure bliss, You have got to try it!

                                                             Have fun, Ellie xx

Some off these brands do have parent companies that test on animals.

    Facts About Animal Testing:

    1. Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year.
    2. 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work.
    3. Labs that use mice, rats, birds, reptiles and amphibians are exempted from the minimal protections under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).
    4. Up to 90% of animals used in U.S. labs are not counted in the official statistics of animals tested. Take a stand by kidnapping your friends’ products that were tested on animals (seriously!). Sign up for Kidnapped Cosmetics.
    5. Europe, the world’s largest cosmetic market, Israel and India have already banned animal testing for cosmetics, and the sale or import of newly animal-tested beauty products.
    6. Even animals that are protected under the AWA can be abused and tortured. And the law doesn’t require the use of valid alternatives to animals, even if they are available.
    7. According to the Humane Society, registration of a single pesticide requires more than 50 experiments and the use of as many as 12,000 animals.
    8. In tests of potential carcinogens, subjects are given a substance every day for 2 years. Others tests involve killing pregnant animals and testing their fetuses.
    9. The real-life applications for some of the tested substances are as trivial as an “improved” laundry detergent, new eye shadow, or copycat drugs to replace a profitable pharmaceutical whose patent expired.
    10. Alternative tests achieve one or more of the “3 R’s:” replaces a procedure that uses animals with a procedure that doesn’t, reduces the number of animals used in a procedure, refines a procedure to alleviate or minimize potential animal pain.
    11. Several cosmetic tests commonly performed on mice, rats, rabbits, and guinea pigs include: skin and eye irritation tests where chemicals are rubbed on shaved skin or dripped into the eyes without any pain relief.
